  • Jersey 2025 Wellingborough District Camp

    11th August 2025

Jersey Wellingborough district scout camp 2025

On the 2nd of August 2025 a group of 33 scouts + 7 leaders from Wellingborough and the surrounding area went on a trip to the island of Jersey for 7 nights. Jersey is the largest of the channel islands. Even though it is considered UK territory Jersey is just 14 miles of the coast of France but 85 miles from the coast of England. The reason I was so exited to go was Jerseys rich culture and famous ice cream. It had been planed 1 year in advance and I knew there would be lots of exiting things planned.

In preparation for the trip we had a kit list. The reason this was so important was so we didn't forget anything we needed for the trip. Before packing I tested that everything was able to function. Such as my torch having new batteries and lighting up. Knowing we were going to be having daily activities, I made sure to pack everything I might need for those activities. Not forgetting my swim shoes, waterproofs and roll mat. Tips for other scouts. Somethings you need to pack plenty of and some you don't. Clothes you can where twice but pants and socks you can only where once. So you may be able to pack somethings lighter than others.

For the journey to the island we travelled by coach to Poole (a place in the south of England) and then in Poole we travelled to Jersey by ferry. The challenges of the trip were: waking up at 1:15 because we had to be at Dale end by 2:00am and struggling to sleep on the transport.

On our day of arrival everyone was exhausted so the only activity we did was tie dying. That day was really chill so I give it 4 stars.

On our second day we went surfing. To get there we had a nice walk along the beach and then went surfing. It was very fun ridin' the waves. 4 stars.

On the third day, people who were under 12.5 years old played on the beach. If you were older than 12.5 years, you were able to make a fire on the beach. This was really fun. Then we collected shells and melted a metal inside of them to make a really cool shell shaped ingot. 4.5 stars

We had a really busy day four. On Thursday, due to it not being windy enough, we had to make a busy day even busier by moving blow carting to the Tuesday. In the morning we did kayaking, giant paddleboarding and we went on a speedboat and saw some dolphins. Then we heard the devastating news it was not windy enough to do blow carting. On the bright side it was the best day out of them all. 5 stars.

On day 5 we went to Elizabeth castle. It was a great history lesson. We even got to see a musket and a cannon being fired. The cannon was so loud when they fired it. A very educational but sun day. 3.5 stars.

On day 6 we went to Jersey zoo. It was very fun seeing all the animals. I got to buy myself a massive orangutang. I have called it King Louis. 4.75 stars.

On day 7 the penultimate day we went to St Hellier the capital of Jersey and went shopping. Then we watched the battle of the flowers (a Jersey national event). It was so good. 4.25 stars.

On day 8 we went mini golfing and travelled back home.

The skills I have learned from the trip

    - How to surf

    - Water safety

    - Money skills(we had to manage our spending money)

    - SO much I can't list it all

    Funny moments and highlights

    - The explorers decided to play a trick on the leaders and they made a pillow man named Jeremy

    - Lucy (one of the leaders) is terrified of bananas so we put bananas in her sleeping bag

    - Edward (one of the scouts) used the soap dispenser as shower gel

Things I learned in my time on the trip

    - Ferry ports are the most expensive places

    - How to make friends

    - My stepdad taught half the people there (he's a teacher)

    - Don't forget sun cream

In my overall opinion the trip to Jersey was well worth it and very fun. The trip was well planned and the leaders ran the trip well. For future scouts, my advice to them is do it, even if they are nervous, do it. I was a bit apprehensive about the trip as I didn't many people who were going but now I can say I've made lots of friends. Finally I would like to thank all the people that made this trip possible. Barry, Lucy, Adrian, Caroline, Liam and Justine, without you as leaders, the trip wouldn't have happened. Thank you for all the adventures and memories.
